Master's Degree in Technical Communication
The MA in Technical Communication prepares students for careers in editing, policy writing, and publication management. Students are taught to write for industry, government, technology, and the scientific disciplines. Technical Communication courses emphasize writing and editing to achieve specific purposes and address specific audiences, producing different types of documents, including instructional manuals, reports, and proposals, using writing as a tool for learning, working collaboratively to solve problems, and evaluating the findings of empirical research.
Master's Degree in Writing & Rhetoric
The Writing and Rhetoric Concentration is designed to prepare instructors and practitioners of composition. Courses in the program emphasize writing and editing to achieve specific purposes and address specific audiences, using writing as a tool for learning, working collaboratively to solve problems, evaluating the findings of empirical research in composition studies, and applying contemporary theory to the teaching of composition.
Ph.D in Writing, Rhetoric, & Technical Communication
The PhD in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication prepares students to teach and conduct research in the areas of composition, rhetoric, technical communication, and writing program administration. Students following a career path in industry are prepared to work as consultants, editors, content developers, and researchers.
Ph.D in Literature & Composition
The PhD in Literary and Cultural Studies Literature & Composition track emphasizes the importance of discourse in structuring human experience. The program assumes a broadened definition of “texts” that places literature in its historical and cultural contexts and in conversation with critical theory and interdisciplinary methodologies.
