Acute, Chronic, and Continuing Care Science Department

The department of Acute, Chronic, and Continuing Care Science (ACCCS) encompasses various specialty areas that foster a dynamic and collaborative environment that promotes teaching, research, and service excellence. Under the leadership of Dr. Gloria Carr, Department Chair, faculty members within this department collaborate in their teaching, research, and service endeavors to advance the college’s mission.

The specialty areas within the ACCCS department include:

  1. Adult Health: Faculty members specializing in adult health focus on the care and management of adult patients across various healthcare settings. They possess expertise in diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses in adult populations.
  2. Gerontology: This specialty area concentrates on the unique healthcare needs of older adults. Faculty members with expertise in gerontology provide specialized care and promote healthy aging through evidence-based interventions.
  3. Critical Care and Trauma Care: Faculty members in this specialty area are experienced in providing specialized care to critically ill and injured patients. They possess expertise in managing complex medical conditions and trauma cases.
  4. Psychiatric Nursing: Faculty specializing in psychiatric nursing focus on mental health promotion, prevention, and treatment. They are knowledgeable in providing comprehensive care for individuals with psychiatric disorders across the lifespan.
  5. Chronic Illnesses: This specialty area addresses the management and care of individuals with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory conditions. Faculty members contribute to developing effective interventions and strategies for promoting optimal health outcomes in patients with chronic illnesses.
  6. Nurse Practitioners in Adult and/or Acute Care: Faculty members with expertise as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in adult and/or acute care play a crucial role in advanced nursing practice. They possess the skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive care and manage acute and chronic conditions in adult populations
