Combination Senior Status

An undergraduate senior student at The University of Memphis may earn up to 12 hours of graduate credit while enrolled on a Combination Senior/Graduate Non-Degree basis. The student must have a total cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and must have filed with his or her graduation analyst a plan for completing the bachelor's degree within two semesters.Approval to register for graduate credit does not imply approval for admission into a graduate program at the University or that the credit earned will be accepted towards a graduate degree. After the bachelors degree is awarded, a Combination Senior/Graduate Non-Degree student must make formal application in order to be admitted to a graduate degree program. Courses taken for graduate credit may not be used for both the baccalaureate and graduate degree. Combination Seniors are not eligible for graduate assistantships.

Combination Senior Program Guide

The Combination Senior Program allows qualified undergraduates to register for graduate classes, offering a chance to explore graduate coursework before committing to a formal degree program upon graduation. As of fall 2019, students may receive up to 12 graduate credits during undergraduate classification.

Eligibility

The student must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and be within two semesters of graduation to qualify for the Combination Senior Program

Step One – Initiating Combination Senior Coursework

The student must meet with an advisor to discuss program requirements.

Step Two – Receiving Combination Senior Designation and Registration Permit

The approving advisor will contact Peggy Callahan at gsgraduateanalyst@memphis.edu to add the Combination Senior designation to the student’s record. Once the Combination Senior status is designated, the advisor issues a permit to the student so that he or she may register for a graduate-level course. The advisor must add a second permit, "COMBSR", to allow for combination senior registration. Students without permits will receive a level restriction block from registering for graduate courses.

If the student wishes to take a course in a future term, an additional permit must be issued once registration opens for that term.
