Coalition of Black Social Workers-University of Memphis (CBSW-UM)

The name of this organization shall be the Coalition of Black Social Workers-University of Memphis Chapter.  The acronym is CBSW-UM.

Mission

The mission of the Coalition of Black Social Workers is as follows: The Coalition of Black Social Workers exists to engage, connect, and empower Black social work students and professionals in the community, with the goal of increasing awareness about issues specific to the Black community and cultivating a network of support.

  • CBSW-UM Chapter Kick-Off Meeting
Friday, September 27th, 2024 Senate Chamber (Room 261) I 12:30pm-2:00pm I Virtual Access Available
This meeting is for current and prospective members to kick off the upcoming year with CBSW!  Meet our excutive Director, Dr. Carmen Reese-Foster to learn more about our organization.  Our CBSW-UM chapter officers will host and share our plans for the upcoming year.  Enjoy lunch and awesome door prizes!

Learn about mentorship with CBSW!  Join us as we host a panel discussion about mentorship with some of our very own mentors!  They'll be there to discuss their experience in the program as well as answer any questions that you all may have. This meeting is open to both current and prospective members.

Tiger Pantry Drive I November 4th - 8th
Help CBSW collect items for the University's Tiger Pantry!  Items such as canned goods and hygiene products will be greatly appreciated.  There will be locations on campus where you can drop the items off at , stay tuned for that!
 
 
  • CBSW Chapter Meeting

Join CBSW as we relax to prepare for finals and reflect on the semester!  This meeting is open to all, so please hang with us as we enjoy some refreshments, reflection, and relaxation.  For people attending virtually, make sure you have your favorite snacks and beverages around!

Fall 2024:  All CBSW Meeting notifications will be sent via invitation in Microsoft Outlook to your campus email address.  We will also be participating in virtual activities with our sister chapter and students across Tennessee.  
All events are subject to inclement weather cancellatiomn and all University policies.

CBSW-UM is looking for student leaders dedicated to active pursuit of the mission and goals of the Coalition of Black Social Workers.  CBSW emphases Black Excellence in person and practice.  We need leadership today who will support the vision for tomorrow.  CBSW-UM members are encouraged to consider time and commitment in service to the Coalition of Black Social Workers.  Members are invited to contact Faculty Advisor, Ms. Kenya Anderson, to discuss and explore leadership opportunities.

NOTE: In order to be eligible for and maintain an executive board position, the student must be in good academic standing with the School of Social Work and demonstrate commitment to the mission through engagement, practice,and service.
