A word from the Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School regarding the new newsletter!

Welcome to the UofM Graduate School newsletter Ascende Altius! The name of the UofM’s new strategic plan is Ascend. The word “ascend” means to climb, to move upward. Under the leadership of President Hardgrave, we have embarked on a bold and ambitious journey. The strategic plan is not merely a document but a roadmap to propel us to new heights of excellence, innovation, and impact. Ascend represents a commitment to elevate our university’s stature on both a national and global stage. The Graduate School at the University of Memphis plays a central role in this plan. Our graduate students and graduate faculty are engaged in the cutting-edge research and creative endeavors that will maintain our Carnegie R1 status and increase our visibility and standing.  

It is fitting, then, that the Graduate School’s newsletter be named Ascende Altius!— a Latin phrase meaning “Climb higher!”  With over 20 doctoral programs, 40 master’s programs, and a variety of graduate certificates, the University of Memphis graduate school can help you continue your educational journey and reach new heights. We encourage you to explore our flexible and affordable programs.

In this newsletter, you will read about our amazing alumni and students who chose to climb higher. Our faculty spotlight will showcase our outstanding researchers and teachers and the impact they have on their students and the community. We will be telling our story, highlighting the success of our students and faculty, the vibrant city of Memphis, and the important role graduate education plays in fulfilling the University’s vision of becoming a nationally recognized public research university.

In the coming months and years, you will witness exciting developments, collaborations, and initiatives from the Graduate School that will help shape the course of our institution.
