The U of M Department of Theatre & Dance continues its 2014-2015 season with the timeless
Shakespearean tragedy, Macbeth. Directed by third-year MFA candidate Jung Han Kim
(Polaroid Stories), this production aims to shift and broaden the expectations of
what Shakespeare's classic can be. Kim utilizes his own unique directorial style,
while still honoring the language and story that audiences have come to love. With
a cast of twenty-six, Kim is able to use movement and vocal soundscape to transform
the story's classic moments into experimental images that reinforce the themes. Jon
Castro, who is portraying the role of Macbeth, remarks, "The vision is so clear that
I am never lost. It's not done traditionally. It's edgy, yet realistic." And the play's
director states, "We are experimenting with different things. The actors are willing
to try anything and that is the fire on the stage."
