Apply to BSN Program

As a future nursing student, it is important that you select a nursing program that is the right fit for you. At the University of Memphis Loewenberg College of Nursing, we offer undergraduate degree paths that provide accessible and innovative higher education. We have a long-standing tradition of academic excellence and offer programs taught by world-class professors on two beautiful campuses (Memphis and Lambuth).

How to Apply

The nursing program application process is a two-step process.

Step 1

Must apply for admission to University of Memphis and designate your major as Academic Focus-Health Professions. Students must meet all university’s admissions requirements. Please adhere to the University of Memphis's application deadline timeframe in conjunction with LCON application deadlines when submitting your University of Memphis application. Applicants are responsible for allowing sufficient processing time between UofM application and LCON application deadlines. Current University of Memphis students can omit this step and proceed to Step 2.

Step 2

Once you are accepted to the University of Memphis, begin the application process to the Loewenberg College of Nursing by completing the NursingCAS application by 10:59 p.m. Central Standard Time on September 15, 2023.

  • Request that official transcripts from all US institutions attended be sent to NursingCAS. Even if you are a UofM student you are required to submit official transcripts to NursingCAS.
  • Upload a personal statement and resume in the Documents section of NursingCAS.
  • Upload 2 letters of recommendation in the Reference section NursingCAS.
  • Pay $60 non-refundable NursingCAS application fee.

Deadlines to Apply

Freshman Admission September 15 January 1
Fall Admission September 15 February 15 
Spring Admission March 15 September 15 

All required documents should be uploaded with your program application in NursingCAS by 10:59 PM CST on the deadline date. Applications can only be verified once all payments, transcripts, and documents have been received. To ensure your application is verified on time, try to complete your application at least four weeks before the deadline. No late applications will be accepted

Note: Accelerated BSN admits during the Sping and Fall semester.

Please allow up to six (6) weeks following the application deadline before inquiring about the status of an application. All application decisions will be sent to memphis.edu email addresses six (6) weeks after the application deadline has passed.


BSN Admissions Criteria

  • Be admitted to the University of Memphis as a degree-seeking undergraduate student.
  • Minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.0
  • Accelerated BSN applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree. 
  • Minimum Nursing Program prerequisite GPA of 3.0 for the following courses:
              CHEM 1010/1011 – Chemistry of Materials/Lab (or CHEM 1110/1111 – General Chemistry/Lab)
              BIOL 2010/2011 – Anatomy and Physiology I/Lab
              BIOL 2020/2021– Anatomy and Physiology II/Lab
              BIOL 1230/1231 – Microbiology/Lab
              MATH 1530 – Probability & Statistics (or equivalent)
              NUTR 2202 – Nutrition
              EDPR 2111 – Development Across Lifespan
    All listed courses must be completed with a “C” or better.
  • Only 1 Nursing Program Prerequisite course may be repeated only once, including labs. If repeated the second earned letter grade of the repeated course will be used in the prerequisite GPA calculation (regardless of if grade is higher or lower). The first letter grade for all remaining Nursing Program Prerequisite courses will be used in the prerequisite GPA calculation.
  • PSYC 1030 – General Psychology is required as General Education Social Science with a “C-“or better.
  • All General Education courses and all Nursing Program prerequisite courses must be completed or in-progress at the date of application as long as they are complete prior to starting the Nursing Program.
  • A minimum of 60 hours must be complete prior to starting the Nursing Program.
  • Required documentation: (1) Resume; (2) Letter of Interest; (3) Reference Letter
  • Clearance of all high school deficiencies.
  • Science courses must be completed within five (5) years of LCON admission. In-person sciences are preferred.
  • Students transferring from another Nursing program must submit a letter of good standing from the Dean/Director of the previous Nursing program along with a transcript. Transfer applicants with less than a grade of “C” in a Nursing course will not be eligible. This includes repeated Nursing courses in which a grade above “C” was earned.
  • All transcripts from every college attended must be sent, received, and evaluated by UofM Admissions Office.
  • Applicants must be admitted to the UofM or an active UofM current student for the Term in which they wish to start LCON.

Accelerated BSN

Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree at the time of application. Admits students during the fall and spring semester. Must complete the following prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of a “C” prior to admission:
      CHEM 1010/1011 – Chemistry of Materials/Lab (or CHEM 1110/1111 – General Chemistry/Lab)
      BIOL 2010/2011 – Anatomy and Physiology I/Lab
      BIOL 2020/2021– Anatomy and Physiology II/Lab
      BIOL 1230/1231 – Microbiology/Lab
      NUTR 2202 – Nutrition
      PSYC 1030 – General Psychology
      MATH 1530 – Probability & Statistics (or equivalent)
      EDPR 2111 – Development Across Lifespan
