DAVID GAGNON

Biography

David is currently an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Fogelman College of Business & Economics for the University of Memphis. He has held this position since August 2022.

Prior to coming into the University of Memphis, David was an adjunct faculty member teaching both graduate and undergraduate classes for 20 years. His coursework included Human Resource Management, Management and Leadership, Global Marketing, Introduction to Marketing, Organizational Ethics, International Business, Organizational Concepts, Supply Chain Logistics, Organizational Behavior, Operations Management in the Service Sector, Business Strategy, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management and Global Competition and Logistics Management. David is a well know consultant who regularly assists companies as they develop their strategic plans and strengthen their leadership teams. He is a part of the expert network for multiple companies including Gerson Lehrman Group, Cap Vision, Atheneum, Emissary and Coleman research. He often provides insights and consultations on the supply chain, logistics and transportation industry.

David retired as an executive for FedEx in August of 2022 after a 39-year career with them. David’s tenure included positions in operations, international strategy, quality, engineering, customer solutions and leadership training. In his tenure with FedEx, teams reporting to David were responsible for the implementation of operational standardization initiatives, the development of best practices, leadership of continued expansion of global Quality Driven Management initiatives and use of technology to improve global service metrics. He also led Global service and quality assurance teams where he was responsible for Global development and implementation of Quality tools that drive an enhanced service performance, as well as managing all the corporate location and transit database content. His department provided information decision support to the Express Senior executive team that helped to deliver an enhanced customer experience. He managed the Express Service Quality Indicator (SQI) process including setting Global goals and tracking performance weekly. David is a three-time recipient of the FedEx Five Star Award, the company’s highest honor for outstanding individual leadership and contribution.

David is active in several associations and has served on the University of Memphis Fogelman college of Business and Economics (Marketing and Supply Chain Management) advisory board. He has also served on the Advisory board for the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital FedEx Family House. David is a graduate of the University of Memphis and holds a Master of Science from the University of Arkansas. David is married, is the father of three boys, and resides in Eads, Tennessee.
