Biography
Dr. Ambartsoumian is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Management Information Systems. He is an experienced and motivated educator with a combined experience of working in higher education and the semiconductor industry in the US, as well as in special machines in Ukraine where he was born. His Master's level education includes an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Kharkiv Polytechnic in Kharkiv, Ukraine and International MBA from the University of Memphis. His engineering experience includes R&D, prototyping and productization projects in the areas of special machines, ultrapure materials, materials specification/chemical compatibility, electrochemicals, utilizing such CAD tools and patent search and analysis. His work with corporate IT departments, CAD databases, patent databases and ERP systems in industry led him to take interest in business databases and MIS as a discipline. He has taught undergraduate courses at all levels, from Cisco Networking/A+ at 1000 level to Global IT at 4000 level and a graduate level (7000) Business Database courses.
He has a passion for teaching as well as for research and maintaining links with industry. His graduate work and research at the University of Memphis centered around the new directions in Databases (Big Data products), BI and their influence on professional jargon and organizational design. As an industry watcher, he has a strong interest in the history of technology, and devotes some of in his free time researching similarities between the development of musical instruments and mechanical computing devices in Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
