The University of Memphis will become among the latest higher ed institutions featured in “The College Tour” when the Amazon Prime Video show streams new episodes later this year.

Earthquake Research Center at UofM Welcomes New Director
The Center for Earthquake Research and Information at the University of Memphis welcomed a new director to start off the new semester. Vadim Levin, PhD, most recently of Rutgers University, will lead the team at CERI, a Tennessee Center of Excellence that monitors earthquake activity in a large part of eastern North America, conducting fundamental research on the causes and consequences of earthquakes, including the way temblors happen and the impact they have on society.

UofM Health Sciences Professor Receives Higher Ed Science Educator of the Year Award from Association
Marie van der Merwe, PhD, an associate professor in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Memphis, recently received the 2023 Higher Education (4-year institution) Science Educator of the Year award from the Tennessee Science Teachers Association.

Hooks Institute to Host National Book Award Presentation
The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis will celebrate the 2022 Hooks National Book Award winner, Dr. Julius B. Fleming Jr. and his book “Black Patience: Performance, Civil Rights, and the Unfinished Project of Emancipation” at a ceremony Tuesday, Feb. 27.
