Sponsor a Visiting Scholar

J-1 Information for U of M Departments

The University of Memphis is enriched by a variety of short-term scholars, researchers, and visiting professors who come from all over the globe using the J-1 visa. Their stays may be for less than one semester, or may extend for multiple terms, but in all cases, they are involved in informational and cultural activity with their hosting department. Their core goals are:

  • "to promote the exchange of ideas, research, and linkages between research and academic institutions in the United States and foreign countries. They can also be on a short-term visit in the U.S. to lecture, observe, consult, train, or demonstrate special skills at U.S. research and academic institutions, museums, and libraries."
