Ecological Research Center Facilities

The administrative offices of the Ecological Research Center are housed in facilities located on The University of Memphis' South Campus. These facilities also contain classrooms, research labs, analytical labs, and offices for faculty and students. Extensive field equipment is also available for land and water research.

The University of Memphis Museum of Zoology collections are maintained by the ERC as well as a large mammal collection containing specimens from the United States and Mexico. A fish collection contains representative of fishes of the Mid-South. A newly constructed aquaculture research building provides 4,000 ft2 of wet lab space for aquaculture research, as well as an analytical laboratory, shop and office.

Personnel of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wildlife and Habitat Management, and Law Enforcement, as well as the U.S. Geological Services Water Resources division have offices at the ERC. Collaborations among these offices and ERC personnel comprise important components of the ERC research capabilities through established cooperative agreements.

Teaching and research activities are integrated with facilities located in Ellington Hall and the Life Sciences building on the University of Memphis' main campus. These facilities provide convenient on-campus resources for additional experimental ecological research.

Activities of the ERC are tightly coupled with those of The Edward J. Meeman Biological Station (MBS), also operated by the Department of Biological Sciences.
