EDPR Degrees & Certificate Programs

EDPR offers its graduate-level courses for Ph.D. and M.S. students both face-to-face and online. We are considered one degree, so when students earn the PhD or MS in Educational Psychology and Research (EDPR), that is what will be listed on their degree. However, our program is broken up into two specialty focuses, Educational Psychology and Educational Research. Educational Psychology emphasizes the application of educational and psychological theory and methods (quantitative or qualitative) to solving problems of practice with more of an applied focus. The theory comes first, followed by the method. This can be further broken down into Human Development (child/adolescent/adult/lifespan) and Learning and Cognition/Motivation. Whereas Educational Research focuses on the improvement of deeper application of quantitative or qualitative research methods across a variety of educational or societal issues and problems. This specialty can be broken down further to Quantitative Research and Qualitative Research.

EDPR offers its graduate-level courses for Ph.D. and M.S. students together on campus. Currently, online courses are mainly for M.S. students. M.S. students will complete a 30-credit-hour program, including 27 credit-hours of coursework in the major and 3 for the capstone research project. All of our graduate-level courses are taught by instructors with terminal degrees.

EDPR Ph.D. students will build a 54-credit-hour program of studies in consultation with their advisors during the first academic year, including 42 credit hours of coursework and 12 for the dissertation.

All graduate students are expected to complete required courses on research and educational psychology and are encouraged to take elective courses that align with their own research interests.
