Jack Cooper
Jack Cooper is the host of WUMR's The Voice of Jazz. His broadcast focuses on important historical recordings and personalities in jazz.
Jack has a wide range of experience as a composer, arranger, instrumentalist, author and educator. His 2014 recording "Mists, The Music of Charles Ives for Jazz Orchestra" (Planet Arts) has received critical international acclaim.
He also served as the musical director collaborating with Michael Waldrop for the Origin Records big band releases Time Within Itself and Origin Suite. He can be heard on over 60 different releases since the early 1980s.
From 1989 - 1995 Cooper served in the sax section and as a staff arranger for the U.S. Army 'Jazz Knights' big band touring and recording throughout the Northeastern United States. Most recently he has been the composer and arranger in residence for the Berlin Jazz Orchestra and the Young Voices Brandenburg.
He is Professor of jazz studies on faculty with the University of Memphis Scheidt School of Music and served as a guest artist and visiting faculty member for 2015 - 2016 at the SRH Hochschule der populären Künste in Berlin Germany.
