The Portuguese Speaking World
The Portuguese speaking world includes eight countries (Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé/Principe, and East Timor) and some small communities as a result of Portuguese colonization in the XVI century: Zanzibar (Tanzania), Macau (China), Goa, Diu, Daman (India), and Malacca (Malaysia). Approximately 237 million people, on nearly every continent in the world—from Asia to South America—speak Portuguese.
