Our Mission

The MISSION of UMID to serve the needs of the greater mid-south and beyond through services, education, and research for and about persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our Vision

The VISION of UMID is to act on our commitment to creating a learning community that provides perspectives and insights from scholars, thought leaders, community partners, students, families, and other supporters, who challenge, lead and advocate for (and with) persons with disabilities.

Our Guiding Principles

  • Person-Centered Systems Perspective
  • Inclusion, Social Justice, and Equity
  • Sustainable and Systemic Impact

We utilize a person-centered systems perspective to maximize educational, health, social, family, employment, and financial outcomes for diverse community members and those who support them in an ever-changing global environment.

We create and leverage innovative and interdisciplinary programs, services, and research with community, public, and private partners to promote higher education access and career development, advocating for community integration, and enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Our practical, real life results change individuals, families, and communities and will inform (lead to) sustainable and systemic change.
