After 3 years, Tent City disbands as ex-sharecroppers find homes. Many of the former residents move to Freedom Farm, which was property purchased to aid farmers to become self-sufficient. Despite the consent decree, evictions continue under the guise of mechanization. Neither do the attempts to discourage black participation in the primary end. The Fayette County Democratic party requires all primary candidates to pay a $150 registration fee, blocking many black citizens, most of whom are barely able to make ends meet, from running for office.
