The focus of the Speech Perception Assessment Laboratory (SPAL) is the accurate assessment of speech perception by individuals with normal hearing and those with hard of hearing with specific emphasis on the evaluation of the validity and reliability of the various tools and procedures used to assess speech perception. This research is directed by Dr. Lisa Lucks Mendel who is an Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders and co-author of the textbook Audiologic Assessment and Management and Speech Perception Assessment.
The SPAL is one of several research laboratories that make up the Center for Research Initiatives and Strategies for the Communicatively Impaired (CRISCI) which is an integral part of the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
