Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Membership Information

Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the international honor society for sociology students, dedicated to recognizing academic excellence in the field of sociology and promoting the value of sociological study. As an exclusive honor society, AKD offers students opportunities for networking, leadership, and further engagement within the discipline of sociology. Read more about the benefits of membership. 

Eligibility for Membership

Membership in AKD is open to undergraduate students who are majoring in sociology aand meet the following criteria.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a sociology major or minor. 
  • Must be at least a junior (third year). 
  • Must have maintained a minimum overal GPA of 3.3 and a GPA of 3.0 in sociology courses taken at University of Memphis. 
  • Must have completed at least four sociology courses (equivalent to 12 semester hours) prior to initiation.

Note: The lifetime membership fee is $50.00
