2024 Capacity Building Workshops
Workshop Purpose and Goals
The purpose of the SCHD workshop series for healthcare workers is to improve emotional well-being and self-awareness by exploring how unprocessed trauma and dysfunctional caregiving roles affect professional performance. Through psychoeducation, emotional literacy, narrative therapy, and role-play, participants will gain skills to identify and move away from reactive role patterns such as Persecutor, Rescuer, and Victim, which can contribute to compassion fatigue and burnout. The goal is to empower healthcare providers to adopt healthier roles, improve emotional resilience, and enhance the quality of patient care, all while maintaining their own mental health and well-being.
The 2024 workshop at ECoP for Community Partners explores how the concept of fictive kinship can enhance the mentorship program by fostering meaningful connections among community participants, particularly those who are justice-involved and have experienced family fragmentation. Fictive kinship, which refers to relationships with the same significance as family ties despite not being based on blood or marriage, creates a supportive environment where individuals can find emotional stability and connection. Through this framework, community participants can re-write their personal narratives and develop emotional literacy, enabling them to identify and express their emotions. By viewing mentors and mentees as extended family, the program promotes stronger bonds, greater emotional support, and a more cohesive community, ultimately encouraging collective growth and mutual respect-key goals of the mentorship initiative.
