Tiger Blue Goes Green 2015: Tiger Blue Goes Green 2015, an annual campus-wide event to promote eco-responsibility and activism, was held on Tuesday, October 6 in the Student Plaza. This year's theme (Environmental Service), featured exhibitors showcasing their volunteer opportunities and recruiting students, faculty and staff to sign-up.

Public Health Summer Institute 2015: SPH hosted its fourth annual Public Health Summer Institute during the first week of August; workshops this year included SAS for Beginners, Quality Management, Health Analytics, and Data Analysis and Presentation using Excel. 

Dr. Jia named JPB Environmental Health Fellow: Dr. Chunrong Jia, assistant professor of Environmental Health, has been named a JPB Environmental Health Fellow. The highly competitive honor comes with up to $350,000 in support over a three-year period from Harvard University. The JPB Environmental Health Fellowship program was developed to promote multidisciplinary research on how social and physical environments interact to influence health, and to look particularly at their impact on disadvantaged communities. This award recognizes the urgency in addressing these issues, and the need to train a new generation of scholars to conduct research and develop solutions to complex environmental health problems.

Five Community health scholars named: SPH is pleased to announce the first cohort of Public Health Community Scholars. Angela Askew, Daleniece Higgins, Jennifer Richardson, Cyril Patra, and Lisa Wang, all first-year MPH students, were selected based on their commitment to public health and health improvement in the Memphis metropolitan area, academic qualifications, advisor recommendations, and demonstrated need. The scholarships provide a monthly stipend during the three-month summer practicum and the 2015-2016 academic year, during which they will complete their MPH degrees. SPH is proud to recognize these scholars, whose efforts will greatly benefit our community.

Dr. Ahn awarded the Korea Foundation 2015 Fellowship: Dr. SangNam Ahn, assistant professor in Health Systems, Management, and Policy will spend the summer in South Korea as a Fellow and Visiting Professor, sharing his expertise and developing research collaborations with other Korean scholars. This highly competitive award reflects the international recognition Dr. Ahn has earned through his research in health services, health outcomes related to aging, and chronic disease self-management.
