University of Memphis School of Public Health Celebrates National Public Health Week

The University of Memphis School of Public Health (SPH) is proud to join the nationwide celebration of National Public Health Week (NPHW), April 7-11, 2025, with a series of engaging and educational activities designed to promote health and wellness.

Sponsored by the American Public Health Association (APHA), National Public Health Week highlights key public health issues and encourages communities to take action for a healthier future. The SPH is excited to align its programming with APHA’s recommendations, offering students, faculty, and community members opportunities to connect, learn, and engage in public health advocacy.

A Week Full of Impactful Events

This year’s NPHW theme, “It Starts Here,” encourages institutions and individuals to take meaningful steps toward improving health for all. The University of Memphis SPH will host the following events to inspire conversation, action, and awareness:

    Advocacy Starts Here: Amplifying Voices for Public Health
  • Day 3: Yoga on the Lawn

    Climate Action Starts Here: Championing Resilience for Health
  • Day 5: Student Health Gallery
    The Future of Public Health Starts Here: Strengthening the Public Health Workforce

 

Day 1: Morning walk at 10:00 a.m., on April 7, at the Hunter Harrison Memorial Pedestrian Cable Bridge
Day 1: Bridge Walk
Day 2: Joshua Perkins, CEO of Young Gifted and Green Inc., as he shares insight on leadership and public health at 1:00 p.m. in the UC Fountain View Room (350).
Day 2: PHSA Guest Speaker
Day 3: Reduce stress and promote mindfulness with a guided yoga session led by Yvette Smith, at the UC Alumni Lawn 2, from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Day 3: Yoga on the Lawn
Day 4: Learn about climate health solutions and enjoy a community picnic at the School of Public Health’s community garden from 12:00-3:00 p.m.
Day 4: Plant & Picnic
Day 5: Jennifer Knet at Robison Hall to discuss health priorities and set personal wellness goals
Day 5: Student Health Gallery
Day 5: Noon-1PM - Speaker Series Event
Day 5: Speaker Series
