Aeryn Longuevan
Master of Public Health (MPH)
Hello, my name is Aeryn, and I am currently pursuing a Master of Public Health in Biostatistics (class of Spring 2025). Before coming to the University of Memphis School of Public Health, I spent four years studying Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, working as a Resident Assistant, and engaging in community organizing for environmental justice. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I knew that I wanted to pursue further education in a field where I could use the scientific research skills I had developed to directly improve the health and wellbeing of my community and the environment we call ‘home’. With this in mind, public health was an obvious next step for me. Since starting my studies here last May, the University of Memphis School of Public Health has afforded me many opportunities to learn about and become involved in the field of public health. Through my Research Assistant position with Dean Joshi, I have been able to work with high school students towards establishing public health clubs in their schools and the community, and connect with many School of Public Health alumni to gain insight into the various types of professional roles their degrees in public health have prepared them for. I have also had the opportunity to build relationships with current students and faculty here through my new role as Vice President of the Public Health Student Association as we are planning the various events and professional development workshops that will be hosted throughout the year. I am excited to continue to grow these relationships throughout the coming year as a student, and as a public health professional after I graduate.
