Degree Programs

Global psychology students at the University of Memphis may tailor their degrees to their personal goals and interests. Students have the choice of a BA (Bachelor of Arts) in Psychology or a BS (Bachelor of Science) in Psychology. While both degree paths provide a strong grounding in psychological science, they both also provide room for majors and minors to choose courses that complement their career or graduate school plans. Advisors can help match students with strong psychology electives and general electives to support a student’s career goals.

Job Preparation

Early on, Psychology students take a course to explore career options in the field along with steps necessary to achieve those careers. Faculty and staff provide students with the tools necessary to put those steps into action. Students may meet with our psychology advisors regularly to talk about career plans, while University Career Services is also available to work with students their first year through their last, as well as after graduation.

Job Opportunities

Opportunities for jobs in psychology are projected to grow faster than average over the next decade. Many psychology majors also continue on to health-related graduate programs, such as occupational therapy or physical therapy, with these job opportunities also growing at a faster than average rate. Students interested in the lucrative business-side of psychology, such as human resources and industrial organizational psychology, will also find a faster-than-average growth in these job opportunities. Common jobs in psychology can be explored further here.

Alignment with APA

Goals for our program align with recommendations of the American Psychological Association for Undergraduate Psychology. The UoM Department of Psychology leadership maintains an active commitment to these goals.

We invite Psychology students at the University of Memphis to further explore our undergraduate program and resources available at UoM’s Psych Ready website.
