"Freudian Futures"
The 2012 Spindel speakers, who are working at the intersection of psychoanalysis, philosophy, comparative literature, political theory, religion, and science, have been invited to address not only the question of the future(s) of Freudian concepts but also how our future(s) will be shaped by Freudian psychoanalysis. Speakers will take up essential Freudian themes--dreams and drives, sexuality and fetish, cruelty and murder, as well as metapsychology--in insightful and innovative ways, revealing the continued relevance of Freud's thought.
This intensive and focused conference will include seven sessions: two keynote lectures will be presented by Elissa Marder (Emory University) and Philippe Van Haute (Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen), four main sessions will highlight the work of Gil Anidjar (Columbia University), Adrian Johnston (University of New Mexico), Tracy McNulty (Cornell University), and Paul Moyaert (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), and a special session entitled "Sovereign Cruelty of Psychoanalysis" will feature Martin McQuillan and Simon Morgan Wortham (both from Kingston University London).
