LCON promotes Dr. Jeremy N. Whittaker to Associate Dean

Dr. Jeremy N. WhittakerThe University of Memphis Loewenberg College of Nursing (UofM LCON) promoted Dr. Jeremy N. Whittaker to associate dean for Student Success and Inclusion. This new role expands upon his duties as assistant dean for Nursing Students, a position he has occupied since coming to LCON in July 2021. In his new role, he will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and best practice oversight for nursing student success programming and inclusivity efforts for the college. 

“LCON’s continued commitment to ensuring a genuine culture that fosters a sense of belonging for all is imperative to sustaining our core values, and I’m excited to be a part of ensuring these efforts continue to prepare leaders while promoting health,” Dr. Whittaker said.

Since his arrival to LCON, Dr. Whittaker has made a positive impact on overall student engagement and success through collaborative efforts with faculty, staff and community partners that promote the college’s mission and core values. These efforts include the implementation of ScrubHub, the online, one-stop student support system; campus partnerships to decrease barriers to student success, such as financial and wellness concerns; and support of the continued growth of the LCON Lambuth student community, which recently saw the largest enrolled cohort since its inception.

As associate dean, Dr. Whittaker will ensure effective programs and services that attract potential students, as well as promote access, retention and a sense of inclusive belonging that enriches the academic environment and enhances student development. Additionally, he will spearhead LCON’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, including community partnership relations, alumni engagement as well as chairing internal committees composed of faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders.

In addition to rewarding his positive impact to the college, Dr. Whittaker’s appointment to associate dean for Student Success and Inclusion highlights LCON’s continued commitment to diversity. Part of the college’s core values and strategic goals, diversity and inclusion are critical and fundamental to developing a nursing workforce capable of providing high-quality, safe and culturally appropriate care.

The Loewenberg College of Nursing (LCON) is committed to the preparation of nursing professionals who share a common goal of promoting health and achieving health equity of the global community. Both the baccalaureate and master's programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. 

LCON is home to more than 1,000 students, enrolled online and on two campuses located in Memphis and Jackson. LCON's is headquartered in the $60 million, 200,000-square-foot Community Health Building that serves as a hub for faculty, students, staff and community partners to exchange ideas, pursue scientific inquiries, strive for academic excellence and commit to serving interests of the community from local to global.
