LCON MINDSET Members Present Research at 49th Annual AAMN Conference, Championing Diversity in Nursing
October 19, 2024
Three members of Loewenberg College of Nursing’s MINDSET organization, Antonio Davis, Jaelen Gatewood, and Christian Majors, proudly attended the 49th Annual American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN) Conference, held in St. Louis, Missouri, from October 17–19, 2024. The LCON students presented their poster abstract, titled “The Effects of Convenience on Colorectal Screening Rates: A Literature Review,” which received positive feedback from attendees. Their participation at the conference showcased the college’s commitment to research, education, and advocacy in the field of nursing.
Antonio said, " The conference was refreshing and showed how welcoming the nursing community can be. Strangers became connections and even friends in a matter of days. If I need help with anything involving my future endeavors or just someone to talk to about my next steps in nursing, the conference offers that. I would recommend that anyone go if given the opportunity. The speakers were very informative in their presentations and covered topics such as advanced care planning and how AI could start being implemented more into healthcare. Once they were done speaking, they were available for a one-on-one conversation if they wanted to. No matter the school, ethnicity, semester, student, teacher, or doctor, everyone just seemed happy to be at this conference with each other. Thank you, LCON, as well as my brothers Christian and Jaelen, for this opportunity."
This prestigious event brought together nursing professionals from across the country, providing a platform for promoting diversity and inclusion in the nursing profession. The AAMN conference is renowned for its focus on diversity and inclusivity. This year’s highlight was the presentation of the Inclusion and Diversity Excellence (IDEA) Award. The event offered valuable opportunities for networking, learning, and professional growth, affirming the importance of inclusivity within nursing.
Christian Majors stated, "The AAMN conference was such an incredible experience. The ability to hear the perspective of male nurses who have years of experience and hearing how to overcome any setbacks helped us understand the importance of having faith in ourselves. This event gave us the amazing opportunity to network and communicate with nurses all over the country and has helped us MINDSET members take advantage of newfound opportunities and learn more about how to enhance our care. We are very grateful for this opportunity that has been given to us and we hope to continue making our LCON family proud."
LCON is proud of its MINDSET members for representing the college and contributing to the ongoing dialogue around improving healthcare outcomes and advancing diversity in nursing.
