About Stacey LaBarre-Powell
Dr. Stacey D. LaBarre-Powell is a registered nurse who graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1985. She completed a BSN in 1990 at Memphis State University while attending The College of St. Francis to obtain an MS in Healthcare Administration. In 1996, she graduated from UT Center for the Healthcare Sciences with an MS in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certification. In May 2017, she completed her Doctoral of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Union University.
Dr. LaBarre-Powell joined the Loewenberg College of Nursing to be part of a team that prepares nursing leaders and represents best practices in technology integration, research, collaboration, quality education and innovation in healthcare. She believes learning occurs best when the student feels safe to inquire and explore the nursing content, in the importance of engaging students to be analytical and critical thinkers and learning takes place in many forms—group activities, personally relevant course work, professional speakers, and sharing of individual experiences. This myriad of learning creates a sound curriculum for the nurse educator and the nursing student to become change agents in an ever changing healthcare world. Her philosophy of teaching connects with her philosophy of nursing—teach with care and compassion.
She has been married to Charlie Powell for 30 years and has two beautiful children—a daughter, Courtney (her spouse James and her 1st grandchild, Avery), and a son, Chaz (current Law School student). The last household child is her black yorkie-poo, Dash.
