Professional Overview
Dr. Alzyoud joined the Loewenberg College of Nursing faculty in 2023. She earned her PhD in nursing from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Dr. Alzyoud's research program focuses on the mistreatment of patients, women's health, and Respectful Maternal Care (RMC), especially abuse and disrespect of women during labor and birth among underserved and racial/ethnic minority populations in healthcare settings. She has an extensive clinical experience in OB/GYN settings. During her doctoral program, she targeted patient abuse by healthcare professionals as an emerging violent phenomenon that can impact a patient’s psychological, emotional, and physical well-being. Dr. Alzyoud's research goals are to understand the basis for nurses' violence against female patients in healthcare settings. She developed a theoretical model, Patient Abuse in Healthcare Theory, to guide her research. Another achievement of her doctoral dissertation is the development of a comprehensive tool that examined the factors and predictors associated with nurse/midwife disrespect and abuse of women during childbirth. In addition, she has experience teaching family health nursing, maternity and women’s health, research seminars in nursing, group communication seminars, introduction to professional nursing, and holistic health assessment courses to undergraduates.
