Biography
Kristen Russell is a multifaceted marketing professional with a diverse skill set encompassing communications, brand development and management, digital marketing, public relations, media buying, graphic design, and event management. As a native of Memphis, Tennessee, Russell earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Alabama. Her background in marketing and design delivers results by implementing effective, data-driven strategies while bringing them to life through compelling and visually appealing materials.
Her diverse skill set and expertise have allowed her to significantly impact different sectors, including marketing for the Girl Scouts of the USA, Dover Motorsports, NBC-affiliate WMC-TV5, The University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, and beyond. As chief marketing officer for the 59-county regional Girl Scout council, she served on the national Girl Scouts of the USA MarComm Advisory Committee. Her participation in the national brand refresh and marketing campaign resulted in GSUSA achieving an Enso World Value Index of 2. She also managed the regional $3 million Girl Scout Cookie Program marketing strategies that produced the highest per-girl average in the country.
Russell's expertise goes beyond traditional marketing strategies. In addition to her creativity, Russell excels at building strong connections with sponsors, media outlets, and community partners. Her ability to forge these relationships has been pivotal in the success of various initiatives, such as NASCAR Day, the Girl Scout Cookie Program National Conference, and the opening of the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center. These opportunities underscore her multifaceted talent in strategic planning and relationship building, instilling confidence in her ability to deliver results.
Russell is the marketing and communications officer at the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, where she plays a vital role in advancing the Scheidt School of Music and the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center. Using her experience in recruitment, advancement, and event management, Russell's strategic approach and creative talents have led to increased brand recognition, elevated relationships with stakeholders, and driven enrollment and event attendance growth. She is also the editor and art director for the school'ss Blue Note magazine.
Beyond her professional commitments, Kristen is a dedicated advocate of promoting and serving her community. She is a member of the American Marketing Association, co-founded the National Stand Beside Her Movement, a former president and life member of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, served as president of the Metro Memphis Attractions Association, and is a past board member of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau (Memphis Travel).
