National Student Clearinghouse Data Breach
July 7, 2023 — The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), a provider of student data reporting and exchange for the University of Memphis and most colleges and universities in the United States, was among several organizations recently impacted by a data security event. This event specifically involves the MOVEit file transfer software, which NSC uses to accept data transfers.
The UofM infrastructure was not affected by this incident. The University was notified it could be impacted through the access of student data by an unauthorized party. It is not clear at this time if that is the case as the NSC is continuing to work with leading cybersecurity experts to review the impact of the event. The University will continue to monitor the situation and will share further information from NSC as it becomes available.
