David McKinney appointed to University of Memphis Board of Trustees
July 18, 2022 - David McKinney, vice president of communications and public affairs for AutoZone, has been appointed to the University of Memphis Board of Trustees by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, pending approval from the State of Tennessee legislature.
“It is a distinct privilege to serve on the University of Memphis Board of Trustees, and I am greatly honored by Gov. Lee’s appointment,” said McKinney. “I eagerly look forward to contributing to and proudly serving my alma mater in this new role.”
McKinney will replace R. Brad Martin, who served as interim president of the UofM during the 2013-14 academic year and is current chairman of RBM Ventures and retired chairman and CEO of Saks Incorporated.
“The UofM Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome David McKinney and thank Gov. Bill Lee for his appointment,” said Chairman Doug Edwards. “There is great momentum at the University of Memphis, and we know David will help the advancement of our great University. I believe that David represents a strong addition to our Board, and we look forward to working with him. The Board also deeply appreciates Brad Martin for his outstanding service and love for the UofM. His leadership as a Board member as well as interim president of the UofM will not be forgotten.”
McKinney is responsible for AutoZone’s corporate communications, public and media relations, charitable giving and government relations. He remains active in the civic and business communities. Currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee and California Retailers Association, he also is on the Tennessee Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments and Tennessee Financial Literacy Commission. He previously served on the University of Memphis School of Law Alumni Board.
“The University of Memphis is fortunate to have an outstanding Board of Trustees,” said UofM President Bill Hardgrave. “We welcome David McKinney to this honored group who work tirelessly for the University. I know David will be a great addition to the Board. Brad Martin served the University well, and we thank him for his gracious benevolence and support of the UofM as a Board member, interim president and an alumnus.”
McKinney has earned two degrees from the University of Memphis, a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2004 and a Juris Doctorate in 2007.
