UofM's Hooks Institute to Host Pulitzer Prize Winner Marcia Chatelain for National Book Award Lecture 

The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis will host Marcia Chatelain, winner of the 2020 Hooks National Book Award for her work “Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America,” on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. The event will be livestreamed on the Hooks Institute's Facebook page.

Qualls to Direct the Energy, Defense and AgriTech Research Initiative at the University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology

Dr. Louis Qualls has been selected to establish and direct the ENDEAVOR Research Initiative at the University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology beginning Feb. 1. ENDEAVOR, which stands for Energy, Defense and AgriTech Innovation Research, will pursue connected multi-discipline research to address shifts in population, the environment and policy in a rapidly evolving and increasingly challenging world.

UofM Board of Trustees to receive 2022 John W. Nason Award for Board Leadership by Association of Governing Boards

The University of Memphis Board of Trustees has been selected to receive the 2022 John W. Nason Award for Board Leadership by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), the premier organization representing higher education governing boards. The Nason Award, established in 1992, is presented in partnership with TIAA to higher education governing boards that demonstrate exceptional leadership and initiative.

U.S. News & World Report

UofM Online Programs No. 1 in Tennessee for 3rd Straight Year by U.S. News & World Report

The University of Memphis is the highest-ranked institution in Tennessee for the third-straight year by U.S. News & World Report in its 2022 rankings of online programs. The UofM’s status in these rankings began its incredible climb five years ago, culminating in the top spot for three consecutive years. The UofM is ranked in the top 150 in nine categories nationally, including six in the top 30.

Scheidt Family Commits $500,000 to Establish Strike a Chord: Scheidt School of Music Drive for Excellence Fund at the University of Memphis

The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music recently launched Strike a Chord: Scheidt School of Music Drive for Excellence Fund at the University of Memphis. Together, Susan Arney, Rudi Scheidt Jr., Elkan Scheidt and Helen Gronauer, all children of the late Honey and Rudi E. Scheidt, committed, $500,000 to create a matching fund to secure donations to support students who will be learning and performing in the new Scheidt Family Music Center.
