UTHSC to Provide COVID-19 Testing for UofM Students This Fall

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 10, 2020) – The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is partnering with the University of Memphis (UofM) to provide COVID-19 testing for UofM students returning to campus this fall.

The partnership between two of the city’s major academic institutions is an extension of previous successful research, education, and community outreach collaborations.

The testing for students will be done on the UofM campus and managed by University Clinical Health, one of UTHSC’s affiliated clinical practices. University Clinical Health has also managed COVID-19 testing at the UTHSC drive-through testing sites across the community. The details and timing of the UofM testing are being worked out by the two institutions.

“The University of Memphis is pleased to be partnering with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center to provide COVID-19 testing for UofM students who will be returning to campus this fall,” said UofM President M. David Rudd. “We are grateful for University Clinical Health, a clinical practice affiliate of UTHSC, which will be performing the testing. Ensuring the safety of our students and everyone on our campus always has been and will continue to be of utmost importance. This is yet another critical partnership between two great academic institutions in the City of Memphis.”

“UTHSC looks forward to more win-win partnerships like this with the University of Memphis,” said UTHSC Chancellor Steve Schwab, MD.

UTHSC has been a leader in COVID-19 testing in the community, establishing one of the early drive-through testing sites in the city at Tiger Lane at the Mid-South Fairgrounds, as well as other sites in the community.
