Dr. KB Turner Appointed Chair of Faculty Athletics Committee at UofM
September 6, 2019 - University of Memphis President M. David Rudd has appointed Dr. KB Turner to chair the Faculty Athletics Committee, which he has served on for several years.
Throughout his 31 years as a professor, Turner has worked with and assisted in the recruitment of student-athletes and served as a guest coach for the University of Nebraska football team. He has been on the University of Memphis faculty for 16 years, the last six as chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Turner serves on numerous University committees and chairs the newly created African American Male Academy. He also chairs the Student Conduct Committee and is a University Hearing Officer.
“I am excited and honored to be appointed by President Rudd to lead this very important committee,” said Turner, a former semi-pro linebacker. “There are dedicated faculty on the committee who have made the commitment to focus on the needs of our student-athletes. The President and I have as a goal for the FAC to be deeply involved, using best practices, and to become a national model for other universities to emulate. We have ambitious goals going forward, and I am looking forward to working with the committee.”
The Faculty Athletics Committee serves as the faculty advisory group to the President on institutional issues related to intercollegiate athletics. It fosters the University’s commitment to academic integrity within the athletic department, strives to ensure that the athletic department operates in consonance with the University’s educational mission and actively promotes the welfare and educational success of our student-athletes.
