Bobby Fogelman Will Be Appointed Emeritus Lifetime Member of University of Memphis Foundation Board of Directors

May 20, 2019 - Philanthropist Bobby Fogelman will be appointed an Emeritus Lifetime Foundation Board member, the University of Memphis Foundation Board of Directors announced. He will be formally recognized at the Board's meeting May 23 at 3 p.m. in the University Center.

"The University of Memphis would not be the well-respected institution that it is today without the continued outstanding and generous support of the Fogelman Family, including Bobby and his wife, Martha," said UofM President M. David Rudd. "We are extremely grateful for their wonderful friendship and are so fortunate to have Bobby and Martha play such an important role in the University of Memphis Family. Bobby's appointment as an Emeritus Lifetime Foundation Board member is much deserved."

In 1973, Fogelman and his brother, Avron, established the Morris S. Fogelman Chair in Real Estate in tribute to their father. The families' ongoing support prompted the naming of the Fogelman College of Business & Economics in their honor, and later the Fogelman Executive Center.

In the 1980s, Bobby led a group of prominent Memphis business and community leaders in forming a board, which became known as the Board of Visitors, to advise the president in elevating the status of the University nationally and enhancing its relationships in the local community.

Bobby served as the first president of the Board of Visitors and continues to be an honorary member. He also continues to serve on the UofM Foundation Board, of which he is a past president, and as an advisor to the dean of the Fogelman College.

Contributions from Bobby and Martha include the Martha and Robert Fogelman Family Sustainable Real Estate Fund and the Martha and Robert Fogelman Galleries of Contemporary Art.

The Fogelman Galleries, located in the Art and Communication Building, vastly expanded professional exhibition space for the University and increased its capacity to bring contemporary working artists to campus to enrich the curriculum and broaden students' understanding of today's art world in a national and international context.

Thanks to a commitment from the Robert Fogelman family, the Tiger rifle team moved into a new facility in South Hall in 2017 after 20 years away from campus. The R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range features a state-of-the-art facility for student-athletes to practice and compete in both air rifle and small bore disciplines on a 10-point range with electronic target systems, live video streaming and scoring results projected within the range.
