Dr. Damon Fleming Named Dean of Fogelman College at UofM

January 11, 2019 - Dr. Damon M. Fleming has been named dean of the Fogelman College of Business & Economics and full professor in the School of Accountancy at the University of Memphis, effective July 1.

Fleming is professor and William E. Cole Director in the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy at San Diego State University. The AASCB-accredited School has 1,000 undergraduate accounting majors and 100 graduate students.

Among his honors, Fleming has been selected Most Influential Faculty Member three times and received the Outstanding Faculty Contribution Award. His teaching areas include financial reporting, financial statement analysis, accounting research, management accounting, accounting judgment and decision making.

Fleming's research uses theories from psychology, behavioral decision research and economics to investigate accounting issues in the areas of auditing, ethics, financial reporting and taxation as well as cross-cultural issues in these areas. He has published more than 25 papers in accounting journals, including Accounting Horizons, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of the American Taxation Association, The International Journal of Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Accountancy and Strategic Finance.

Fleming earned his PhD from Virginia Tech University and his master's and bachelor's degrees in accounting from San Diego State. He is a CFA® charterholder and a Certified Management Accountant. Before entering academia, Fleming was a principal at a venture capital firm in Southern California. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, CFA Institute, California Society of CPAs and Institute of Management Accountants.
