Jemele Hill to Headline First Amendment Lecture March 12

February 21, 2019 - Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist Jemele Hill will be the featured speaker at the eighth annual Norm Brewer First Amendment Lecture Tuesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. in the University Center Theatre at the University of Memphis. The event is free and open to the public.

Hill is the co-founder of Lodge Freeway Media and a staff writer for The Atlantic. She previously was chief correspondent and senior columnist for The Undefeated, ESPN's content initiative exploring the intersections of sports, race and culture. Prior to joining The Undefeated, Hill co-anchored ESPN's SportsCenter with her longtime friend and colleague, Michael Smith. SC6 with Michael & Jemele debuted in February 2017 as a more personality-driven approach to the traditional 6 p.m. SportsCenter. The show focused on sports, music, movies and more.

Starting in March, on Mondays and Thursdays, Hill will debut a new podcast on Spotify called Unbothered. The podcast will feature Hill and her co-host along with a rotating cast of high-profile guests. On the air, Hill will explore the news of the day and the intersectionality between the worlds of sports, politics, music, identity and culture. Unbothered is an honest, thought-provoking, always-entertaining analysis of American life, discussed in real-time as it unfolds.
