Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement
The University Libraries is committed to upholding and strengthening the core values of librarianship and furthering our institutional focus on equity, common humanity, and respect for the dignity of all people (as outlined in the University’s strategic plan, Ascend). We embrace the responsibility to ceaselessly work toward recognizing and eradicating conscious and unconscious bias, systemic racism, and other forms of structural inequality. We understand that building a sustainable culture of respect and empathy for diverse viewpoints is an ongoing commitment that requires dedication and accountability.
The mission of the University Libraries EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee is to develop, monitor, and sustain an environment in which individual and collective differences are acknowledged, embraced, and celebrated, and systemic barriers to equity are removed. The resulting environment is one in which all Libraries’ faculty, staff, and users are welcomed, valued, respected, seen, and heard. Through the development and implementation of the Diversity Plan, the EDI Committee ensures that programs, activities, and/or resources addressing accountability, assessment, and education related to EDI are available to all employees and users of the University Libraries.
