JODI WILSON ELECTED ALWD PRESIDENT
Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Law Jodi Wilson has been elected to serve as president of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD). She began her term as president in August of this year and will serve for one year. She will then serve as immediate past president for one year.
According to ALWD, the role and duties of the association's president are as follows:
"The President shall be the principal executive officer of the Association. Subject to the direction and control of the Board of Directors, the President shall be in charge of the business and affairs of the Association. The President shall see that the resolutions and directives of the Board of Directors are carried into effect except in those instances in which that responsibility is assigned to some other person by the Board of Directors. In general, the President shall discharge all duties incident to the Office of the President and other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors. The President shall preside at meetings of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and the Association as a whole."
Interim Associate Dean Wilson has a long history of service with ALWD, having previously served on the following positions with the organization:
- Survey Committee (2012-2018), Co-Chair/Chair (2013-2018)
- Board member (2016-2017), President-Elect (2017-2018)
- ABA Task Force (2017-Present)
- Executive Committee (2017-Present)
- Conference Site Committee (2014-2015)
In additional accolades related to legal writing, Interim Associate Dean Wilson recently received the President's Distinguished Service Award from the Legal Writing Institute (LWI) in Summer 2018, of which she was the inaugural recipient. The award will not be bestowed every year, but rather it will be given only when LWI determines that it is merited. The award recognized Wilson's service to the Legal Research and Writing community through her work in ALWD and the LWI.
