2021 ADVOCACY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Memphis Law is pleased to announce the roundup of winners for all of our 2021 Advocacy Awards.
Wes Folwer 1L Best Oral Advocate Award
The winner if this year's "Wes Fowler 1L Best Oral Advocate Award" is Madison Bennett Greene. Ms. Greene will receive this award in Fall 2021.
This award is presented annually to the Best Oral Advocate of the First Year Moot Court Competition as voted on by those who serve as judges. The award's namesake, Wes Fowler, was selected as the Best Oral Advocate of this Competition in 1995, as well as the Best Oral Advocate of the Mock Trial Competition in 1997. He also competed on behalf of the law school on the National Moot Court Team in 1996 and was a member of the Moot Court Board.
After his untimely death in 2017, his loved ones, friends, and family endowed a scholarship in his name to honor his many accomplishments, as well as provide financial assistance to a deserving law student who possesses talents similar to those of Wes.
Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy
The 2021 winner of the Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy is Hannah Strong.
This award was established in memory of Christian Soronen, a 2007 graduate of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. The scholarship is awarded to a third-year law student in good academic standing who has also been a member of a moot court travel team or selected to be a member of such a team during his or her third year.
Joe Moore, Jr. Advocacy Award
The 2021 winner of the Joe Moore, Jr. Advocacy Award is Hannah Strong.
This award is named in honor of former law professor Joe A. Moore and is granted to a graduating student who has excelled in oral advocacy. Recipients are selected by the law dean and faculty.
The Honorable David S. Kennedy Bankruptcy Achievement Award
The winners of the 2021 Honorable David S. Kennedy Bankruptcy Achievement Award are:

- Rachel Simmons, 3L
- Taylor Sorilla, 3L
This Award was established to recognize an excellent student or students and support the study of bankruptcy law at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. It was established by an alumnus who has great admiration and respect for his bankruptcy professor, Judge David S. Kennedy.
Deal Cooper Holton Scholarship PLLC Award in Excellence in Trial Advocacy Scholarship Award
The 2021 winner of this award is Malik Luckett.
This award was established by the law firm of Deal, Cooper & Holton, PLLC. This award will be given to the student with excellent performance in the School of Law course entitled Trial Advocacy.
CourtCall Advocacy Awards
This year's winners of the CourtCall Advocacy Awards are Rose Logan and Malik Luckett.
The CourtCall organization annually awards two graduating students with an award for excellence in advocacy, with a focus on excellence in moot court and/or mock trial competitions, outstanding service to the Moot Court Board, and outstanding performance in Advocacy courses.
