U of M is in the process of developing a Lactation Certificate Program that will prepare students to sit for the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification exam.

Exam Eligibility Criteria

Students must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to sit for the IBCLC certification exam:

• Health Sciences Education
• Lactation Specific Education
• Lactation Specific Clinical Experience
• Adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct for IBCLCs

Program Design

The Lactation Certificate Program is designed to be completed immediately before taking the IBCLC certification exam.

The Lactation Certificate Program addresses the Lactation Specific Education and the Lactation Specific Clinical Experience portions of the eligibility criteria.  The program may be taken after or in congruence with completion of the student's Health Sciences Education.
