Career Services

To further assist graduates in finding employment in their careers, the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media maintains a job placement service through the Internship and Career Services office.

Since the service was established in 1989, it has helped numerous UofM graduates find positions. Memphis journalism and strategic media employers have learned to contact the department for job placement before placing public ads.

All internship and job ads we receive are posted to our LinkedIn group. Check the page often as new jobs are posted daily. Posted jobs are primarily in Memphis and the Mid-South, but the listing often includes national job opportunities, as well. Resumes

Do you have a resume? Do you need help developing one? Do you need to get yours ready to make the transition from student to professional? The Internship and Career Services office offers resume critique and assistance to all our students at all stages of their college education. Students are expected to begin developing their resumes in JRSM 3900, and to keep updating them throughout their studies. We recommend students develop resumes in Adobe InDesign and incorporate their personal branding. This handout offers guidelines for how to write the content for your resume. Click here for details. 

Cover letters

Cover letters often are the key to getting noticed for a job and getting pushed to the side. The Internship and Career Services office offers help writing and revising cover letters.
