About Prof. Taylor Ackerman
Prof. Taylor Ackerman is an instructor at the University of Memphis, where she teaches public relations classes. Taylor is passionate about helping students find their strengths through experiential learning, as well as building connections between class concepts and real-world application through multimedia examples, case studies, and problem-solving.
Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Memphis, Taylor served as a marketing and communications manager for a large construction company in the Midsouth, where she spearheaded public relations campaigns that focused on brand reputation, consumer relations, and community outreach. Additionally, Taylor executed several large-scale events, tradeshows, and company parties, and oversaw advertising creative, employee communication, and social media messaging.
Taylor’s research focuses on social media strategy and the use of self-disclosure and authenticity in online self-presentation. In 2021, she received the Morton Thesis Award for her master's thesis within the Department of Journalism and Strategic Media as well as the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
In addition to teaching, Taylor offers freelance public relations and marketing services to local and online businesses and specializes in helping with brand strategy, social media content, and event planning. In her free time, Taylor loves to travel, try out new recipes in the kitchen, and volunteer remotely for Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York where she’s devoted to helping with immigrant rights.
