Dr. Grusin worked as a reporter for The Commercial Appeal. She is project director of The Teen Appeal, a unique, citywide high school newspaper published by The Commercial Appeal. Her teaching areas were law and writing. She received the University of Memphis's Distinguished Teaching Award and the Dean's Research Award for the College of Communication and Fine Arts. She and Dr. Sandra H. Utt were co-editors of Newspaper Research Journal. She has published in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Journalism and Mass Communication Monographs, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, Grassroots Editor and Newspaper Research Journal. She retired in 2010.
