The University of Memphis (UofM) requires all international students on F-1 and J-1 visas, enrolled in credit or non-credit courses, to maintain active major medical insurance in order to mitigate risk to the student and the institution.
Our university has partnered with Wellfleet Insurance Company to offer a robust and student-focused insurance policy to meet the needs of international students on campus. The Wellfleet student health insurance plan is an annual (12 month) and ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant plan. If you are a J-1 student, this plan also meets the Department of Homeland Security insurance requirements.

Summer only: May 1 - July 31 (only for students enrolling at The University of Memphis
for the first time in Summer semester)

International graduate and undergraduate students on F-1 and J-1 visas are automatically enrolled in the UofM Wellfleet plan once they register for classes. The insurance cost will be added to the Tiger express account at the same time as tuition and other fees are assessed. The UofM offers an installment plan that students can enroll in which will spread the payments across multiple months.
International students have the option of requesting a waiver. The waiver period for the Fall 2024 is July 22 to September 6, 2024.
