Change Major

F-1 students are admitted to the US for the purpose of completing a specific education program as reflected on your I-20. If you change your major before or during your studies at UofM, you are required to report this to the ISS office so we can provide you with an updated I-20. The ISS Office can update your major in SEVIS and provide you with an updated I-20 after your major has officially changed in the UofM system.

To begin the change of major process, you should contact your academic advisor first. Once your major is officially changed in UofM’s records, please submit a Change of Major form in the ISS portal, and we will issue an updated I-20. This form should be submitted within 10 days of your major being updated in UofM’s system.

Please note that a Change of Major form should be submitted for students who change their majors in the middle of their studies. If you have completed your degree program and want to begin a new degree program at UofM, you will need to submit a Change of Education Level form.
