Form I-20
Your I-20 is one of the most important documents for F-1 students. It is the document that proves your F-1 status throughout your student life cycle. You must keep all the I-20 copies that are issued to you. The ISS office does not keep previous I-20 copies for students.
When do I need to update my I-20?
Your I-20 must be updated when there are changes to your personal information or academic records. Examples of this include the following:
- Change of Major
- Change of Education Level (i.e. from undergraduate to graduate)
- Change of Financial Support
- Change of Address or Phone Number (it is not located on your I-20, but this is indicated in your SEVIS record)
- Change of Name
Students are required to notify the ISS office of any change to the information on your I-20 within 10 days of the change. Failure to report the change may negatively impact your F-1 status.
