Ms. Lauren Thompson

Ms. Lauren Thompson has a BSc. from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a concentration in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology. After graduating, she gained several years of experience in analytical methods both in academic and industrial settings at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
At the IMC, Ms. Thompson is responsible for performing histology procedures for users interested in examining organs and tissues by light microscopy. Her work involves embedding fixed tissues in paraffin, sectioning the paraffin blocks, and staining the sections either by conventional histology stain or by immunoperoxidase. In addition, she can perform immunofluorescence staining of cells and tissues. She is also responsible for operating and maintaining the confocal scanning laser microscope and for managing administrative duties at the center.
