Q&A
CLASSIFICATION: Junior
MAJOR/MINOR/DEGREE PROGRAM: Mechanical Engineering, Math as a Second Major
WHERE ARE YOU FROM? Marion, Arkansas
FAVORITE THING ABOUT HERFF ENGINEERING? I love how small and tight knit we are as a community. I think it promotes success for the entire group as opposed to doing well on your own.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS? I want to pursue a law degree after I get my undergraduate degrees. From there, I hope to become a lawyer specialized in either intellectual property or aviation.
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OR HOBBIES? I enjoy lifting weights in my spare time as well as watching sports and hunting.
ARE YOU INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY? WHERE AND HOW DO YOU VOLUNTEER? I spend a lot of my time helping out at a small business in my hometown. I do everything from keeping track of money to answering phones or fixing the printer when it breaks.
WHAT STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS ARE YOU INVOLVED IN? I’m a member of ASHRAE and ASME. I was actually allowed to join the ASME leadership on their trip to Nashville this year!
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE? This summer, I was able to serve as an intern at Black and Veatch in Overland Park, KS. I was a member of their federal division, so I was working on projects for the Department of Defense and other defense agencies. It was especially interesting because I was given the opportunity to see how the different engineering disciplines collaborate on projects in the workplace.
“I was taught from a young age to be very hardworking. I was always pushed to be great in whatever I did by my family and friends. I chose to study engineering because of my innate desire to understand the complex machines that drive our society.”
